An event Island Water Sports looks forward to EVERY year is Surfers for Autism. This 10th annual event works to eliminate the stigma of Autism through public awareness and education. Hundreds of volunteers in the community come together to give kids and families the experience of a lifetime. The little surfers get one-on-one lessons, experience stand-up paddleboarding, enjoy kayaking, dance to live music, and have fun through local sponsors who bring in face-painters, activities and more. Even the local fire station gets involved as they let participants finger paint one of their fire trucks. “This is a very special day where children with developmental delays interact with typical peers and wow families with their capabilities.”, says Surfers for Autism.
