IWS owner, Linsey Cottrell, caught up with team rider, Fabiana Delfino, after a jam-packed summer. Fabiana shared her adventures with Xgames, Canada and skating with Macy’s in NYC.

Fabiana you’ve been busy this summer. Where have you been so far?

Yeah, earlier this summer I spent a few days in Seattle for the Wheels of Fortune contest then drove up to Vancouver, Canada for a week. Later in June, I went to Idaho for Xgames qualifiers then I flew out to New York City, two weeks later.

And, who have you been skating with?

I’ve been skating a lot at Boynton park. So, with any homie that shows up or Beatrice and Eric. And of course, with all the dudes at Ramp48.

So, Macy’s? How did you get that call ?

It was actually so random. They slid into my DM’s on Instagram then a few weeks later, confirmed me to do the commercial and flew me out to NYC. All of it happened pretty quick.

What was it like skating in New York? Specifically Macy’s flagship store?

NYC is just one giant playground! Skating in the Macy’s store was crazy. I found out that the store has been there for 159 years. It’s a historic building. The producers had even told us not to slide or pop our boards because on one of the levels we filmed on, the floor was made of tiles from the original building.

Did you guys get to do what ever you wanted ? Or was it scripted ?

I wouldn’t say it was scripted. They mostly just guided us in the direction they wanted the scene to go. We had more flexibility when It came to the skating scenes; we could do whatever we wanted as long as we could land the trick every try or on command.

Were people shopping while you were filming?

When we shot the outside scenes, there were shoppers going in and out of the store. But all of the skating inside the store was filmed after hours…in the early AM.

Did you nail that hippie jump first try?

Haha. I did! The directors made us do that scene like 10 times. The shot used in the commercial was one that I landed then power-slid into a clothing rack.

So, are you hoping this commercial  opens the door for more opportunities like this? Or was this just too good to turn down?

Yeah, I’d definitely consider doing more gigs like this.

What’s next for you and skateboarding?

I’m not sure, but I’d like to keep things going the way they have been so far this year. Basically, just keep filming and skating contests. Hopefully the opportunities keep coming.

Should we be expecting a new part from you?

Yeah. I think so. I’ve been filming with my friend from Orlando for his video. We’re trying to get as much footage as we can every time he drives down to film.

What the one thing that has been a lifesaver during your travels lately?

Definitely my iPod. It keeps me sane on 4+ hour flights that don’t offer free tv or music.

Best song right now?
