Get Ready for Matthew
In less than 24 hours, Matthew will impact Haiti. Many of us are asking what potential impact this storm will have on our coast. As the South Florida forecast begins to move away from a direct hit, we are certain to have significant wave activity that is estimated to begin on Wednesday.
This storm is big. But, for any surfer, the potential of a large swell is exciting. We are already seeing some amazing photos coming in from Venezuela and Colombia showing the potential for large waves up the coast.
However, this storm is not something to be taken lightly. Warnings have been issued for Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba, and, watches have been issued for parts of the Bahamas. Beyond this, it is still too soon to determine exactly which parts of the U.S. may be in danger later this week and next weekend.
According to Weather.com:
Hurricane Matthew is moving slowly northward as a strong and extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible over the next couple of days, but Matthew will likely remain a powerful hurricane through its Caribbean voyage.
So, how can you get ready for Matthew?
Make sure to stay tuned to local stations for potential changes in the path. Currently, Matthew is forecasted to skirt the Florida coast later this week.
