This past Saturday, November 3rd Red Bull Flugtag Miami brought self-accredited pilots to Bayfront Park to launch their team-powered flying machines into the wavy waters below. Amongst these arial enthusiasts was the Island Water Sports team “Fins Of Fury.” Lead by local surfboard shaper, Mike Pechonis and piloted by IWS surf instructor Richard Morrison the team constructed a 20ft long great white shark that boasted a 30ft wingspan, one of the largest in Flugtag history.

The inspiration was derived from the great white shark that is currently stuck in the roof at IWS Deerfield. The shark has become the unspoken mascot of Island Water Sports in the past 20 years and seemed perfectly fitting when deciding the theme. The Fins Of Fury embodied the spirit of Bruce Lee in his classic movie “Fists of Fury” by adorning themselves in full ninja gear head to toe.

The Fins of Fury placed 4th in this years Flugtag, with an impressive flight distance of 56 ft and a jaw dropping performance by IWS employees Allen White and Garret Watson, who displayed their ninja dance moves to over 100,000 people on the Miami shores. Fins of Fury might not have taken Gold this year, but they did make it into RedBull history books for one of the craziest crashes ever survived. Until next year the airways are safe but expect to see us back for REDBULL FLUGTAG 2013
