CONGRATS TO JOHN JOHN ON HIS 2ND WORLD TITLE

John John Florence World Champ

This week, Hawaiian surfer John John Florence, took home the world championship with WSL at Pipeline. John John was competing head to head with Gabriel Medina during the end of season until lost to Jeremy Flores in the quarterfinals. Although John John went on to win the overall world championship, Flores still took home the last WSL competition win of the year at Pipeline Masters.

Regardless, John John was still ecstatic. “To win here at home, this has been my dream and this year it happened,” an elated Florence said shortly after Medina’s loss. “It’s just been an awesome year.”

It was a win for both John John Florence and Jeremy Flores. As, Flores had needed a good result at Pipeline to re-qualify for the 2018 tour. Still Flores felt conflicted with the win saying, “To be honest I don’t like to be that guy who is deciding titles. It should have just been a showdown between John and Gabriel. These guys work so hard. Honestly when I beat Gabriel, I felt bad. Guys like that work so hard all year and to see the emotion on their faces, I was like ‘Man, I hate doing this!’ but I was stoked to make it happen a second time. It was an emotional day for sure.”
