Island Water Sports is proud to carry Reef because they have made a commitment to preserving our natural ecosystems through their many fashion initiatives. Reef has created eco-friendly and socially responsible products since it’s founding in 1984. Using constant innovation, Reef has used fabrics manufactured from discarded coconut husks, materials like organic foam (that degrades easily in landfills) and water-based glues to create their line of bags, sandals and shoes.
The Reef Escape
The Reef Escape is inspired by “Vintage California”. The line offers simple and neutral colors mixed with bold and unpredictable prints. These sandals are designed to fit any occasion. From casual beach days to a night out on the town, these sandals have sophistication and style in mind.
Reef did their research. When asking customers about typical rubber sandals, comfort always seemed to be an issue. Reef Escape takes rubber sandals to a new level of quality and comfort. Combining the perfect amount of foam for comfort with the just the right amount of rubber for stability, Reef came up with a sandal that you will love to wear all day. The Escape sandals feature anatomical foot-beds with arch support and heel cupping for stability. By strengthening straps with an innovative washers, Reef has prevented sandal “blow-outs” that we all hate. And, best of all, Reef Escape sandals are made from PVC-free materials.

Reef’s Global Humanitarian Outreach
Reef is not only impacting the environment but also the people they meet during their travels. As a company, Reef has started a global initiative called WE HEART. From visiting orphanages and refugees camps to surf camps for kids living with Cystic Fibrosis, Reef is giving back and making a difference in the world we live in.
“WE HEART IS OUR HUMANITARIAN OUTREACH DESIGNED TO STRENGTHEN THE PEOPLE IN THE PLACES WHERE REEF AND ITS GLOBAL AMBASSADORS TRAVEL AND SURF, FROM OUR OWN COASTAL COMMUNITIES TO THOSE IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD. REEF INVITES YOU TO JOIN #REEFWEHEART AND GET INVOLVED WITH HELPING PEOPLE IN NEED WHEREVER YOU MAY BE JUST PASSING THROUGH.”
Check out just a few of the amazing projects WE HEART has partnered with:
Mauli Ola Foundation
Mauli Ola means “breath of life” in Hawaiian. This incredible foundation introduces kids with genetic disorders like Cystic Fibrosis to surfing . Salt water in the ocean mimics the treatments they receive in the clinics, so surfing is a natural therapy. Reef Ambassadors, Taylor Knox and Mikala Jones, joined other local Hawaiian surfers to get these kids in the water. The Mauli Ola Foundation is not just doing this in Hawaii. Last August they brought their surf experience to Cocoa Beach, Florida.
“It’s been a real eye opener to be involved with a brand that’s bringing awareness to kids that are dealing with challenges in their life. To be able to get out there in the ocean with them to experience and share that with them is amazing. I almost feel like I should thank them for letting me be a part of their life.” – REEF Ambassador, Taylor Knox
The Gabriel House
Located in Mexico, the Gabriel House is a nonprofit rehabilitation facility for children with disabilities. The Gabriel House is home to those who have been orphaned, abandoned, or whose families are unable to take care of them. Reef partnered with Voyages of Agape to visit the children there.
We went to the Gabriel House looking to help serve and get our hands dirty doing whatever work needed to be done. But in the end, all they asked of us was to love. Our hands held, and touched, and pushed wheelchairs all day. It was the simplest thing we could do, and yet it served a great need. These children don’t have parents to hold them, love them and affirm them everyday, but we had the privilege of stepping in for two short days to love on them. I guarantee our love didn’t change them as much as their love changed us.
A wise woman once told me, “One can give without loving, but one cannot love without giving.”. These children showed us what it really means to give and to love with hearts wide open. There were no reservations or holding back. They gave their whole hearts the moment we walked through the door. – Voyages of Agape
Oinofyta Refugee Camp
Reef Ambassadors Victoria Vergara, Mike Lay and Anna Ehrgott and Reef We Heart traveled to Greece. Their mission was to build schools for a Refugee Camp of young Syrians, Afghanis and other Middle Eastern children.
“I think it’s a sign of hope, this camp. This isn’t the end game for them. They didn’t walk for hundreds and thousands of miles to be in this camp. But this is where they are and it’s amazing to see the good work that some of the people are doing here and the good work they are doing themselves to make this into somewhere safe and comfortable to live.”
– REEF Ambassador, Mike Lay
