Is A Skate Helmet Right For You?
A helmet is right for anyone who is active in any type of action sport. Even if you’re a world class skateboarder or simply riding a bicycle, It’s important to use safety gear like Helmets. Falling can be uncertain, so wearing a helmet is the best preventive measure against serious head injuries and will help keep you skateboarding well into an older age. In fact, many local skate parks and laws require the use of helmets. Island Water Sports carries Pro-tec and Triple 8 helmets in different sizes and colors, so finding one that best fits your style should be simple.
Measuring for your Skate Helmet
When selecting a helmet, sizing is first and foremost. For the best protection, measure the diameter of your head with a soft tape measure. This will ensure the best possible fit and limit the movement of the helmet without it feeling too tight.
Step 1: Wrap a soft tape measure around your forehead. It should be just above your eyebrows and above your ears and should be snug; not too tight and not too loose.
Step 2: Record the circumference corresponding to the helmets metrics. Use a mirror if you’re measuring by yourself.
Measuring without a soft tape measure
Repeat the steps above except with any string. When you have the desired tension around your head, mark it and measure the length with a ruler.
Tip: If you don’t have access to a string or a soft tape measure, using a hat size will work just as well. Grab your favorite fitting hat and check the label for your size head size.
