Skateboarding with Michael Mavo is always fun. One reason is because Michael has the most insane trick selection, the other is because he’s an all around good guy! He’s always adding a positive element to the session every time he steps on the board. We’re stoked to have him on the team.
We caught up with Michael at his local hangout, West Boynton Skatepark just to really see what kinds of tricks he’s been working on, so stay tuned for the video below!
Michael Mavo one foot Invert
Interview by Pedro Delfino
How are you Michael, whatcha been up to?
I’ve been pretty good! Finishing up my AA, working, and skating! But of course, skating takes up like 80% of everything else haha.
Do you have any projects you’re working on?
My filmer Josh Kulik and I are finishing up my part in his new video Hot & Humid featuring guys like Joe Tocco and Austin Kloberg. Premiering Jan. 27th at The Movies of Lake Worth! Get out there!
What words do you live by?
“All men are the same except for their belief in their own selves, regardless of what others may think of them” -Miyamoto Musashi, The Book of Five Rings”
Who are some of your influences?
Definitely Brent Atchley, his style on tranny and street really paved the road to how I want to skate. Also, how he bailed on some companies to just skate freely and have fun without any obligation is what I’m all about. Skating is a lot more fun without the pressure to go somewhere with it or begging sponsors for products.

One thing skateboarding as a collective could not be without?
I feel as a collective, skateboarding has to have, or return to, complete individuality. Doing what you want on the board & what makes it fun to you, without the pressure of today’s trends. I feel like there are a lot of skaters that mimic what everyone else is doing. We’re not some high school prep group, you’re not subjected to skating how everyone else is skating, do you!
What are your big plans for the future?
After my AA is finished I’ll have enough money to move out to California and arrange a transfer to another community college, so I really hope that works out. Cali is the place to be!
What’s your favorite trick?
Backside Boneless, but that’s no surprise to a lot of the homies haha.
Thanks to the Boynton locals who go hard every day just for the fun of it. Josh Kulik for introducing me to the streets. Also to Island Water Sports & it’s team for setting up things like this and having me on. It’s a privilege, Thanks!
