Important Approval Meeting For Surf Ranch West Palm

October 5, 2017 – Palm Beach County will make an important decision whether to move forward with a version of Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch here in South Florida. This project was first revealed to the public in march when a preliminary application was submitted with the city. But, the new application being approved today provides even more details of what this project may look like for Palm Beach.

Today they hope to re-zone 78.9 acres on the northwest corner of the business park at the intersection of Bee Line Highway and Park of Commerce Boulevard west of Jupiter to accommodate their plans.

Surf Ranch One Step Closer

UPDATE 10/6/17: Island Water Sports touched base with Brian Waxman, from AW Property Company, who is taking lead in the project approval for Surf Ranch Florida.

“Thank you for reaching out and for your support of our project.  We received zoning board approval yesterday (7-0 vote) and are headed to final approval before the County Commission on October 26.  We are not saying much publicly due to the sensitive nature of this project.”, said Brian. But he shared the official statement that, “The World Surf League (WSL) is proposing to build a world-class wave system, powered by Kelly Slater Wave Company technology, in Palm Beach County, Florida. We have selected this area due to Florida’s heritage of developing world class competitive surfers and numerous amenities. We hope that the local municipalities will welcome our project. The project is currently in the permitting and approval process and have a conceptual plan for programming that would include a high-performance training center for athletes, surfing events and competitions, a surf school providing community access, special programs for underprivileged youth and a learning center providing education on ocean conservation, renewable energy and local environmental initiatives.  We remain focused on the permitting and approval process and look forward to sharing more at a later date.”

 The Buzz of the Surf Ranch Project

An 11-time World Surf League champion and resident of Cocoa Beach, Slater worked with Kelly Slater Wave Co. to create the first “perfect wave” pool in the small town of Lemoore, California. The World Surf League, which acquired a majority stake in KSWC, would lead development of the Surf Ranch in Palm Beach.

Today Surf Ranch is up for one more approval to pave the way to bring Surf Ranch one step closer to West Palm. Get involved. Be a voice.

The Surf Ranch is proposed to have a 16.6-acre wave pool that uses KSWC technology. Included with be a learning center or surf club building, a training center and a clubhouse. The plans for the facility would included hosting 2 to 3 major competition each year that would be televised on national TV. These events are expected to bring about 50,000 people per year to the area. KSWC hopes to provide jobs and tourism income to our area and bring world-class surfing to Kelly’s hometown state.

Although today’s meeting is an important step, the final zoning hearing for Surf Ranch Florida will go before the county commission on Oct. 26.
