Kiwanis Club & Push for Good Provide Scholarship Opportunities for Local Youth to Attend Surf or Skate Camp in Deerfield Beach
With the help of the Kiwanis Club of Deerfield Beach, Island Camps is able to offer partial and full tuition assistance to prospective campers with financial, spiritual and emotional needs. This year we are also partnering with Push for Good to provide scholarships for students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas students to be part of our 5 day surf and skate camp in Cocoa Beach.
Camp can provide an excellent experience for youth to learn and develop, but the financial strain is often hard for families. Our hope is that every kid with a desire to attend a surf or skate camp will not be limited by financial resources. Together we can help give every kids an opportunity to experience summer camp.
How to Apply
This assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis. We hope to also raise enough money to send ten MSD students and/or sibling of victim of the MSD tragedy to camp. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to attend camp and that camp can help our youth gain skills and friendships that last a lifetime.

How to Give
Island Camps partners with amazing organizations such as the Kiwanis Club of Deerfield Beach to provide scholarships to children in need. Each year we hold events to raise the funds needed to provide these scholarships.
This year’s Board Swap, on April 21st, is the perfect opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child. Bring in your used boards and action sports gear for our annual Board Swap. Clean out your garage and sell or upgrade your unwanted items all for a great cause. Each $3.50 listing donation will go towards providing scholarships for local youth. Buy samples from some of our favorite vendors. Plus take part in our amazing raffles and silent auction.
If you would like to help a child but cannot attend one of our fundraisers, you can donate directly online to our general scholarship fund through the Kirk Cottrell Fund. Or donate to help us send a Stoneman Douglas student to our 5-day Cocoa Beach Camp through Push for Good’s Go Fund Me.
About: Push for Good’s Camp Scholarship Fund
Our community went through an unimaginable tragedy that unfolded on February 14th at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. There are no words to express the sorrow the hurt and sorry we have all experienced and what the staff and students of MSD have gone through. Yet, as a community, we want to help these students, families and staff heal.
We know that camp can change lives. And, surfing and skateboarding have been instrumental in helping so many heal from trauma. Our dream is to provide 10 scholarships to bring Douglas high school students with us on our favorite camp of the year.
Donations raised here will be used to provide camp scholarships to Stoneman Douglas students. Students will join Island Camps and Push for Good for 5 days in Cocoa Beach, Florida where we will enjoy the beach and surf, learn about the environment, skate, snorkel, swim, have fun and make new friends.
Healing through Sports
Sports like surfing and skateboarding can
be some of the most powerful tools to rebuild community after a traumatic experience. Camp builds a community of friendship and unforgettable experiences that can help students feel safe, loved, accepted and listened to. IWS Surf and Skate camp helps campers leave with an increased confidence and a deeper understanding of their value. They discover new talents, conquer fears, and learn new skills that help them throughout their life. They build life-long friendships and have many moments to talk to others their age and comfortable share. Campers laugh together, cry together, and build bonds that last well beyond the camp week.
Naturally surfers and skater love to encourage one another. These sports also value the fact that each person is different and unique. This encouragement helps those who have gone through a traumatic experience to grow and eventually become leader who mentor others in the future.
MSD Camp Scholarships
Scholarships applications will be open to any 2017/2018 attending MSD student or children/siblings of victims. If we pass our goal, we will continue to scholarships for additional MSD students to attend.
Your support not only brings five days of joy to these students but will build life lessons that follow campers for years.
