It was the last and final day of the 23rd Annual Tampa Am at the Skatepark of Tampa. We found ourselves looking at some very familiar faces in the semi-finals and finals. Could it be our MVP, Jamie Foy? Could it be our homie Marcos Montoya from Fort Lauderdale (Ramp 48+)? Or could it be a fellow Jupiter Beach neighbor Zion Wright (SPoT)?

The Tampa Am Semi-final heats were composed of 16 skaters each, or 32 skaters total. Those skaters were scored by their best run of two. If the score was within the top 10, they advanced to finals.  By noon, the bleachers, stairs, snack bar, and courtyard were jam packed and everyone was buzzing to start the contest.

Snap it or it didn’t happen!

We decided to give you a view of the event from our own team riders’ perspective. Josh Douglas took over our @iws_skate Instagram and Pedro Delfino took over our @islandwatersports Instagram account. In the meanwhile I was jotting down scores, current events and shooting stills for the website. Beside me was Tyler Bamdas, producer and filmer of “Moving Forward.” Bamdas is currently working on a project with the IWS skate team from this weekend. So, we’re anxiously waiting for that to drop soon!

Finals: Top 10

Your final contestants consist the following: 10 skaters from Semi-finals, 2016 Damn Am of the Year, and 1st place Tampa Am qualifier.  We had skaters from Arizona, California, Florida, Minnesota Peru, Japan, Brazil, and France with one thing in common – representing their home town the best they could.

By the time finals came on everyone was on their A game. The guns came out and every other run was upstaging the last one. Dashawn Jordan’s last run was the real plot twist. Some of Jordan’s tricks included, but are not limited to blunt kick flip to fakie, laser flip over the hip, and 270 lipslide. No falls from start to finish…which earned him a score of 92!

Shh…wait for it…

All the noise from Jordan’s nearly secured 1st place seemed to have thrown off the focus of solid skaters like Yuto Horigome and Zach Saraceno. However, even though Horigome and Saraceno had one run left, Jordan remained humble and could be seen praying on the side lines. After a few falls from Horigome and Saraceno, Jordan knew he had become Tampa Am’s 1st place winner for 2016.
