If you did not get in the water the last few days….where were you?!? From South Beach to Boynton, South Florida saw amazing clean swells. Check out some of the photos sent in by all of you!

On a good day, Boynton Beach inlet produces long, hollow lefts. But last week and weekend, Palm Beach County had many “good days”. But by Monday, the hunt for waves was on.

Check out this photos from http://www.Instagram.com/noproblemzforever and a few others who tagged us in Palm Beach county.

South Beach Point Park is a gem in the rough. Waves are rare, but when a 30 knot plus North Swell comes in, this inlet offers the perfect refraction for epic, hollow waves. Even Surfline’s “Cam of the Moment” swung over to Florida. For a short time, the features swell was not Hawaii, California or even the Northeast, but Miami. See their cam rewind footage here.

Florida-based Surfline forecaster put it this way,

“In excess of 30 knots in this area, the South Florida slot (roughly the stretch of ocean between the Bahamas and Georgia/Carolina coasts south of the Outer Banks) will deliver quality surf to the region. The data also shows that swells meeting the height and period parameters that we saw on Monday occur once every six to seven years during the December-May time frame, and our report rating of Good-Epic showed a very similar return signal for South Beach. Any way you slice it, on average, you’ll see head-head+ surf with Good or better conditions about every one to two years. South Beach has already seen above-average surf heights from late fall through winter, so far; let’s hope we see more above-average surf before this kind-of-an-El Niño pattern is over.”

Local pro surfer Marley Puglielli told Surfline,

“It was tough out there, definitely not as easy at it looked on the cam or in photos. You had to position yourself in the perfect spot and know what you were doing to get a good one, because of how peaky and hard it was throwing. Everyone got some beatings, for sure.”

This was a Monday for the books. No one has seen Miami like this since Sandy. And, this swell came up without anyone expecting it, so the line-up was less crowded and those who started there week off in South Beach definitely has some fun. January 28, 2019 will, without a doubt, be part of Miami surf’s history.

South Beach Miami rarely sees a swell like this. In fact, the waves there only break 2 – 3 times a year here. Photographer Michael Freas caught the epic shots below but, we have to say, that the shot of the year came from Donovan Scott of Island Water Sports team rider Tanner Strohmenger in this blog’s featured image.
